A Legacy
That Still Rides
Tribute to Dr. James Burgess, Founder of Rafter B Farm
Dr. James Burgess
Dr. James Burgess built more than a career; he built a way of life.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy and graduate of the University of Arkansas and UMKC, he carried discipline, integrity, and purpose into everything he pursued. As a member of the mounted patrol and an avid horseman and cattleman, his connection to the land and livestock was not a hobby; it was identity.
In the late 1980s, he established Rafter B Farm, developing a cow-calf operation that remained active for decades. The ranch became a place grounded in tradition. Where cattle were raised, horses were worked, and values were lived daily.
Rooted in tradition
A way of life passed down through generations: on horseback, in the saddle, and in service to the land.
Today, that foundation continues forward. TW Ranch Equine now operates its breeding program from Rafter B: bringing broodmares, stallions, and yearlings back to the origin of the program. It is here that each generation begins.
As young horses develop, two-year-olds transition to the TW Ranch headquarters and training facility. Where they are shaped into performance horses built for the next level, to compete in Futurity competitions.
